I'm slowly getting to know Terry Pratchett's
Discworld novels, and today I felt like sharing a few quotes from the
books I've read. Enjoy. :-)
"Granny had counted the temples with a
thoughtful look in her eyes; gods were always demanding that their
followers acted other than according to their true natures, and the
human fallout this caused made plenty of work for witches."
-"Equal
Rites"
"His
hair was more hairy, his clothes more clothy, his boots the epitome
of bootness. It made your head ache just to look at him."
-"Mort"
"The
ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal.
Studies have shown that an ant can carry one hundred times its own
weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the
average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother."
-"Reaper
Man"
"Who's playing the maracas?"
Death grinned.
MARACAS? I DON'T NEED... MARACAS.
-"Reaper
Man"
"The idea that
Winter could actually be enjoyable would never have occurred to
Ramtop people, who had eighteen different words for snow.*
*All of them, unfortunately, unprintable."
-"Wyrd
Sisters"
"Genuan cooking,
like the best cooking everywhere in the multiverse, has been evolved
by people who had to make desperate use of ingredients their masters
didn’t want. No-one would even try a bird’s nest unless they had
to. Only hunger would make a man taste his first alligator. No-one
would eat a shark’s fin if they were allowed to eat the rest of the
shark."
-"Witches Abroad"
"In my experience,
what every true artist wants, really wants, is to be paid."
-"Soul
Music"
"She
walked quickly through the darkness with the frank stride of someone
who was at least certain that the forest, on this damp and windy
night, contained strange and terrible things and she was it."
-"Wyrd
Sisters"
