Reunion With Toys [Daily Photo #543]

“What should I bring when I come visit you?” asked my mom. “My old books! And toys!” said I. =D Well, I've shown you the books, today it's toy time! I'll focus on one of them…

Kaisaniemi Poplar [Daily Photo #540]

Today my husband and I went to the Kaisaniemi botanical garden in Helsinki with my mother and his parents. There's a cool new feature there called Evolution Tree where you can see how plants evolved. Also there were really giant sunflowers, omg! But, I was smitten by a certain tree as soon as we entered the garden, so today's daily is about it!

Frogs [Daily Photo #539]

Ages ago, when I still lived in Mordor, I had started a collection of frog toys and figurines. Later I brought some of them with me, but some were still left behind. Now three more specimens moved here! Here they are.

Wolfhound and Other Books [Daily Photo #538]

My mom brought some of my old books yesterday, so of course I must show them to you! First, The Wolfhound series by Maria Semyonova. It's a Slavic fantasy story about a guy called Volkodav (Wolfhound), a quiet and compassionate man from a matriarchal society who didn't exactly intend to become a hero and save people but fate said otherwise. The books are very beautifully written, with a poem in the beginning of each chapter. One of the best parts of the series is a pet bat named Neletuchiy Mysh – in Russian a bat is called letuchaya mysh – 'a flying mouse' =D And this pet bat was injured and couldn't fly, so he was named Neletuchiy Mysh, 'a mouse that doesn't fly'. He travels perched on Volkodav's shoulder. =D There is also a scene where Volkodav rescues a puppy, and that's the kind of fantasy hero that I like! : 3 I really hope they'll translate these books to English one day!

Striped Beets and Other Foods [Daily Photo #525]

Did you know that beets can have cute stripes? ^^ As soon as I saw them in Prisma, I knew I had to try them! They taste similar to normal beets, and the stripes fade when cooking, but you can also eat these beets raw.

Fanart: How to Goth by Tyri Matzen

Cactus Love [Daily Photo #524]

When I lived in Moscow I had many cacti and other succulents. Our apartment had broad windowsills and lots of light, perfect for a collection of sun-loving plants. Then I moved to Finland and discovered that most apartments here don't really have proper windowsills, it seems. o_O I'm still puzzled by that. Besides, even if we had a sill big enough to put one or two rows of pots, there wasn't enough light in our previous apartment. This apartment, though, has much more light, plus I have a few grow lights for the darker areas. And so, the inevitable happened and I got two cacti the other day because I missed having them around. : 3

Salaattiasema [Daily Photo #523]

A new place opened in Sello, and we had to check it out! Salaattiasema is a salad paradise, I enjoyed our salad a lot. It had quorn, quinoa, dill cucumbers, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and goat cheese (for my husband, I don't eat it =D).

And then there was romantic coffee in Starbucks.

Art: Nonbinary Demon Hunter for Lex

Dear Lex,
An embarrassingly long time ago you asked if I was going to post any drawings of metalheads. I didn't have any, so I decided to draw one for you and I did! I even scanned it! And then I forgot to post the drawing. >o<;;;;;

But better later than never, right? Allow me to introduce, a nonbinary demon hunter who is very, very metal.

Very Plush [Daily Photo #521]

Today I met a horse in Jysk.

Fanart: Tyri from I Heart Robot

I wasn't planning to draw anything today but this goth girl Tyri kept appearing in my mind's eye with her violin and corsets, and I am very weak and well, goth girls in corsets, you know?? So I sit down to draw her, totally intending to make a simple black-and-white drawing like these ones, but nooo, a voice in my head says “make it colourful, make it red, it will match the cover” and sometimes you gotta listen to those voices when art is concerned, right? So next thing I know, I'm armed with pencils and actually colouring!

...

Two hours later this was completed:

Sello Library [Daily Photo #519]

Today I went to the Sello library and somehow returned more books than I took! (6 books returned, 3 taken. I demand a medal for this achievement of restraint!) Also, I looked at cute art displayed there.

Here are some of the arts!
