Cool books with LGBTQIA characters

June is LGBT Pride Month, so last year's June I read only books with LGBT+ characters. I'm planning to do the same this year as well. (I do read such stories throughout the year as well, but it's nice to have this kind of special month. ^^)

At first, I'd like to recommend a few really cool books with LGBTQIA characters that I liked a lot. For the most part, characters here just happen to be queer, but there are some stories that specifically deal with queer issues. Some of the authors are LGBT+ too.

Because of my personal preferences most of these books are speculative fiction written by women.

Happy Cosmonautics Day!

Jupiters and I are wishing you lots of beautiful stars and comets and much curiosity! ;-)

Also, are you excited about the New Horizons mission to Pluto?

March reading: Finnish werewolves, Grumpy cat and cute detectives

My march reading is introduced to you by Chuck (aka the yellow angry bird) and Minion Pig. In march I decided to read more Finland than usually.

Salla Simukka “Punainen kuin veri” [Finland]
Niskatuki ja muita sarjakuvia [Finland]
Aino Kallas “The Wolf's Bride” (Sudenmorsian) [Finland]
Ana Blandiana “The hour of sand: selected poems 1969-1989” [Romania]
“Grumpy cat: yrmeä kirja (Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book)” [USA]
Emmi Itäranta “Memory of Water” (Teemestarin kirja) [Finland]
Agatha Christie “Partners in crime” [UK]
Octavia E. Butler “Wild Seed” [USA]

“Punainen kuin veri” (As Red As Blood)

Aino Kallas: The Wolf's Bride

A woman turns into a werewolf and tastes freedom – from men, social norms and obligations. That's what The Wolf's Bride (Sudenmorsian) by Aino Kallas is about. It was first published in Finnish in 1928. I chose to read the story in English, because it was written in “archaic Finnish” which I figured would be too hard for me, probably. :D

exist†trace trivia quiz!

Last February exist†trace's fan club Archangel Diamond organized a trivia contest for the fans of the coolest rock band ever, and I won something. :-) I'll show you my prize in a moment, first: the trivia quiz.

The questions were:

[Q1: Jyou] How is "Jyou" written in Japanese? 1) ジョウ  2) ヅョウ  3) ゾョウ
[Q2: miko] Which exist†trace music video ends with the band playing in a field of grass?
[Q3: Omi] Which animal does Omi want the most for a pet? 1) Cat  2) Axolotl  3) Tropical fish
[Q4: Naoto] How many piercing holes does Naoto have? 1) 19  2) 20  3) 21
[Q5: Mally] In Mally's 2014 Twitter Halloween drawing, which member completed her Jack-o-Lantern perfectly (without witchcraft)?

Questions from Jyou, miko and Omi were easy for me (fangirl power!). But Naoto's piercings? I don't think there ever was any exact information about it, at least not in English. I tried my luck and guessed incorrectly... :'-(

Mally's question was a different kind of tricky. Luckily, I had saved her drawings in a special folder, so I just had to check it quickly. ^^
