doesn't recognize borders between countries. You meet someone from
afar and then you find out that you listen to the same songs. My friend
Agnia from Uzbekistan loves a British band Placebo, and so do I. Rita
from Latvia and I are both crazy about Finnish metal. With Rurousha,
South African living in Tokyo, we share passion to the Princess
Mononoke soundtrack. Songs are the place where all languages become
one – the language of music. And musicians from different corners
of the world often unite to create something beautiful.

The
first song is a melancholic, autumny acoustic ballad, the second is a
slow doom metal piece. I'm quite used to European doom metal, but
South African? That's new to me. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd hear a Finnish/SA music collaboration, so thanks for this! I enjoyed both. Even that second doom metal song. Now, where did I put my headache pills? ;)

You made me pay attention to anything SA :) I'm watching Battlestar Galactica now, and there is an actress from Durban, Kandyse McClure. And, of course, I can't drink rooibos without thinking of Africa anymore. :D
DeleteI'm shocked you enjoyed the heavier song as well! O_O (The link to the doom article was special for you. ^^) There is so much beautiful metal, it makes me sad that some people can't enjoy it without getting headaches from the distorted guitars and growling/screaming vocals.
The Swan of Tuonela is nice, but it doesn't pierce me with sadness or despair, it's too... mellow I guess. Here are a few songs of the kind of melancholy I like (no headache inducing elements there):
