JRRT

On 3rd of January, 1892 there was born a man whose creations would influence people's lives long after his death. His name was John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.

I think I don't have to tell you what «The Hobbit» and «The Lord of the Rings» are :). I was one of those who fell in love with the world of Middle Earth from the first sight and for forever. Ah, if only I could have Elvish ears! ^^ Back then I had no idea that I got on a magic path...

«The Lord of the Rings» has inspired me to write a novel that I'm still working on. It's almost complete. I had stories in me since I was a kid, but I never had ideas for a real novel – not until Tolkien. I fell in love with the fantasy genre. Most of my stories now are fantasy :). But that was only the beginning...

I've studied Tolkien's biography quite thoroughly and discovered that he loved the Finnish language and myths, Kalevala. He based one of his Elvish languages, Quenya, on Finnish.

I got curious about Finnish. My curiosity led to actually learning it :). I needed to practice with a native, and where to find a native Finn while living in Moscow? Online of course! I found someone to chat with, and two years later... we got married. :)

I'm ready to celebrate Tolkien's birthday for the rest of my life.

  1. I do love fantasy. Without fantasy, this life is insipid. My soul soars high, goes into another world, sees unique creatures.... exciting indeed. Look forward to your publication of the novel someday soon.

  3. Hi, Yoko!

I also love science fiction where you can fly to space and see the stars... Arthur Clarke was so good at making you feel like you're really there watching Saturn passing by your ship.

The sky was clear today, and I saw Moon, Jupiter and some stars. Ah..
